How we build a fitted wardrobe: from design to installation

A fitted wardrobe is not something you take off a shelf. It is made for one room, to measurements we take at your place, from materials you choose yourself. Below is the process as it actually runs at Mizarstvo Lesnika in Žiri — from the moment you open the configurator to the day we level the wardrobe against your wall.

1. Design in the configurator

You start in the 3D configurator. You enter the width, height and depth of the space, choose the door type, arrange the inside — shelves, a hanging rail, drawers, a drawer bank, a mirror — and pick a decor. The model turns as you work, so you see what you will get rather than only what the specification says.

If you do not know where to start, open the ready-made designs. These are real builds from our own work; open one as a starting point and change it down to the last drawer. A built-in assistant can help too: describe the room in words and it proposes an arrangement, which you then accept or reject.

No registration and no payment is required for any of this.

2. You send an enquiry

When the design is what you want, you send an enquiry. We need a name, an email address and a phone number; an address for the survey only if you want one. Your configuration is saved and you can keep changing it.

No contract exists at this step. An enquiry is a request that we prepare a quote, and nothing more.

3. We call you within 1–3 working days

We talk about the room: where the wardrobe will stand, how the walls are built, whether the ceiling is level, where the sockets are and whether anything in the wall cannot be moved. Often that conversation alone shows that a different arrangement makes sense — a drawer bank where a door could otherwise not be opened, for instance.

4. The on-site survey

In more difficult rooms a survey at your home is the only way the finished wardrobe can genuinely be made to measure. We measure the wall, the floor, the ceiling and the corners, check for services, and go through the chosen materials with you. A survey usually takes 30 to 60 minutes.

5. The binding quote

Within 5 to 7 working days of the survey we send a written quote. It carries the exact specification (materials, dimensions, hardware, extras), the final price including VAT, the payment terms, the expected lead time, how long the quote stands and the warranty terms.

The price shown in the configurator is an estimate against the current price list. Only the written quote is binding, because only then do we know the real measurements and the final specification.

6. Contract and deposit

If you accept the quote, we sign a written contract for bespoke furniture, by hand, either at our premises in Žiri or by post. A deposit of 60% is normally paid on signature.

For contracts signed at your home you have, as a consumer, a 14-day right of withdrawal — which you may expressly waive for a bespoke item so that we can start work immediately. The detail is in the Terms of Use.

7. The workshop build

The standard lead time is 4 to 6 weeks from payment of the deposit unless we agree otherwise in writing. It depends on the availability of the chosen materials, the complexity of the build and how busy the workshop is that season.

Your configuration becomes a cutting list — every panel with its exact dimensions, decor and edge banding. We cut to that list, band the edges, drill for shelves and hardware and build the carcasses. Free-standing units are assembled in the workshop; wide fitted runs travel in pieces, because otherwise they do not go through the door.

8. Installation and handover

On the agreed day we deliver and install: the carcass is set and levelled, fixed in place, the doors and drawers are adjusted, everything is tested, and the packaging is taken away.

At the end we inspect the wardrobe together and sign a handover record. Anything that is not right is written down and put right. The balance is paid once that record is signed.

What we need from you

• rough room measurements (width, height, depth) — how to take them is in How to measure an alcove for a wardrobe;
• a few photographs of the room, including the corners and the ceiling;
• a note of any services that cannot be moved;
• your own sense of what is going into the wardrobe — clothes on hangers need a different height from folded shirts.
